So what is research methodology?

Reseach Methodology is the process used to collect information and data for the purpose of making business decisions. The methodology may include publication research, interviews, surveys and other research techniques, and could include both present and historical information.

Elements of the Methodology:
-Experimental
-Correlational descriptive
-Action research
-Case Study
-Elements of the Methodology

The methodology will also serve to Reveal the following:
1. Tell who the subjects are and how they were selected. Example: random.
2. Discuss any instruments used and how data was collected. Example: observation.
3. Discuss how the data was analyzed. Example: T-test

So, how about my review journal result?
?
?
Well, after I read this journal I can identify that this this journal contain some elements below.

1) Population

The population that this journal takes are 118 first-year English major students in the second semester of academic year 2012 at Thaksin University.

2) Sample

The sample of this journal are 41 students, involved 20 periods of an hour each. Two periods were used for the pre-test and post-test and the other 22.

3) Variables
Independent variable: The use of video materials in teaching listening skills.
Dependent variables: The students’ learning achievement on listening skills and attitudes towards learning through using video materials.

4) used in this study were :
1) lesson plans 2) English comprehension tests (pretest and posttest) and 3) a questionnaire of the students’ attitude.

5) Data Collection

This journal Collected from the students’ scores of the pre-test and post-test of listening comprehension.

6) Research Procedure

There are 7 steps that used in this research procedure.

7) Data Analysis

This journal take through quantitative analysis. The value of mean scores in this journal was interpreted according to the following criteria value of mean scores:
4.51-5.00 very good

International Journal Review (Part 2) : The Effect of Using Video Material in the Teaching of Listening Skills for University Students

Hello everyone!
-
-
In this time, I would like to continue my review journal that I've post last week. Same as yesterday, this journal still about education journal entitled "The Effect of Using Video Materials in the Teaching of Listening Skills for University Students".

So, last week I've shared you about this journal introduction, and now I would like to share to you about the journal's literature review.
1. Literature Review

In the review of the literature discussed about a model of learning processes and the authentic materials for language learning, The use of videos for language learning and related research.

The strategy model used is Bottom-up and Top-down and also interactive processes. Bottom-up processing strategies emphasize individual components of spoken messages: the phonemes and individual lexical and grammatical elements which need to be understood in order to understand the message. In contrast Top-down processing strategies emphasize the purpose and the topic of the message (Nunan, 1998).

Bottom-up and top-down processing is the view that concerns interactive processing comprehension, this means that listeners have to use many types of knowledge.

Acording to this journal, The authentic materials can come in a forms of written text, audio recordings of actual communications or video of conversations or dialogue, all containing content not intended to be used for language instruction.
The used of video in learning process can motivate the students more than other authentic materials because music and setting elements in video can entertain the students and then students can enjoy the learning process.

Maneekul (2002) conducted a study on using authentic material and tasks to enhance listening skill for undergraduate students majoring in English. The results revealed that students’ listening skill increased to a higher level when using authentic materials and tasks after watching native speakers’ video programs.

So guys I think that's enough for today, I'll be back soon at the next blog!

Thank you guys!
I Love you!

International journal Review: Effect of Using Video Materials in the Teaching of Listening Skills for University Students

Hi guys! Welcome back to my blog ^_^
How have you been? Long time not see you ehee....

So, after a long time I was busy for doing some nothing wkwk, then now I'm back to share my assignment to this blog *_*

So in this occasion, I would like to share international journal review about "Effect of Using Video Materials in the Teaching of Listening Skills for University Students" by Kretsai Woottipong (2014).

The reasons why I choose this journal is because I desired to know how I can improve my listening skill by something fun such using video. And the reason why  I want to improve my listening skill because consciously I know that I've poor listening skill.

First of all, let me tell you what kinds of structure or point in this journal. Here’s the structure:
Tittle
The name of author
Information of the author
Abstract
Keywords
I. Introduction
II. Literature Review
III. Material and Method
IV. Finding and Discussion
Conclusions

Picture of a student who can't understand what the foreign said.

So, the introduction of this journal is about curriculum development efforts conducted by Thai education ministers to improve their students' English language skills, especially listening skills. Increasing listening skills is very necessary because if children have poor listening skills it will cause lower grades, incorrect assignments, and lost job opportunities.

There are three things that are the reasons for the need to develop listening skills.

1. First, when going to learn a new language children need the same way as when they will learn mother tongue, namely by listening.

2. Second, listening can improve speaking skills, because by speaking, students can interact with each other.

3. Finally with listening practice, children will be interested in learning the vocabulary, grammar and interaction patterns they hear.

One method that can be used to improve students' listening skills is to involve technology such as video.

The uses of video material in the learning process

According to Secules, Herron & Tomasello (1992) by using video material it will motivate students and attract their attention to the aural input.

So guys, that's all from me, see you in next time hehe ♡♡♡

Tuesday with Morrie: Chapter 20-23

Novel review : The Tuesday with Morrie Chapter 20-23.

The Eleventh Tuesday We Talk About Our Culture
Morrie was lays on his side by his mouth open. Morrie’s disease was now dangerously close to his surrender spot, his lungs. He had been predicting he would die from choking, and nobody could not imagine a more terrible way to go. Sometimes he would close his eyes and try to draw the air up into his mouth and nostrils, and it seemed as if he were trying to lift an anchor.
Morrie believed in the inherent good of people. But he also saw what they could become. People are only mean when they’re threatened.  In addition about what our culture does, That’s what our economy does. Even people who have jobs in our economy are threatened, because they worry about losing them. And when you get threatened, you start looking out only for yourself. You start making money a God. It is all part of this culture.

The Audiovisual, Part Three
The “Nightline” crew came back for its third and final visit. For the interview, which took place on a Friday afternoon, Morrie wore the same shirt he’d had on the day. The camera rolled, the third and final interview. Koppel asked if Morrie was more afraid now that death was near. Morrie said no; to tell the truth, he was less afraid. He said he was letting go of some of the outside world, not having the newspaper read to him as much, not paying as much attention to mail, instead listening more to music and watching the leaves change color through his window.
Toward the end of the interview, the camera zoomed in on Morrie-Koppel was not even in the picture, only his voice was heard from outside it and the anchor asked if Morrie had anything he wanted to say to the millions of people he had touched. Although he did not mean it this way, Mitch couldn’t help but think of a condemned man being asked for his final words.

The Fourteenth Tuesday We Say Good-bye
In the cold and damp day, Mitch walked up the steps to Morrie’s house. He walked slowly, taking his time, stepping on dead wet leaves that flattened beneath his feet. This was Morrie’s final. Morrie had canceled all of his appointments and had been sleeping much of the time, which was unlike him. He never cared for sleeping, not when there were people he could talk with. Mitch puts the food he has brought with him into the refrigerator soup, vegetable cakes, tuna salad. He apologized to Charlotte for bringing it. Morrie hadn’t chewed food like this in months, we both knew that, but it had become a small tradition. Sometimes, when you’re losing someone, you hang on to whatever tradition you can.
Mitch don’t know how to say good-bye. Morrie patted Mitch’s hand weakly, keeping it on his chest, and said I love you. His eyes got small, and then he cried, his face contorting like a baby who hasn’t figured how his tear ducts work. Mitch held him close for several minutes. He rubbed Morrie’s loose skin, stroked his hair. He puts a palm against his face and felt the bones close to the flesh and the tiny wet tears, as if squeezed from a dropper. Mitch likes to think it was a fleeting moment of satisfaction for his dear old professor: he had finally made him cry.

Graduation
Morrie died on a Saturday morning. His immediate family was with him in the house. Morrie had fallen into a coma two days after their final visit, and the doctor said he could go at any moment. Instead, he hung on, through a tough afternoon, through a dark night. Finally, on the fourth of November, when those he loved had left the room just for a moment to grab coffee in the kitchen, the first time none of them were with him since the coma began Morrie stopped breathing and he was gone.
The funeral was held on a damp, windy morning. The grass was wet and the sky was the color of milk.  Although hundreds of people had wanted to attend, Charlotte kept this gathering small, just a few close friends and relatives.

In this novel we can learn that death is certain thing. Everybody will die. So before we get die, prepare yourself to become a better one.

Thank you

Write a review!

Hi guys! In this occasion I’d love to make a review of my friends’s blog from another class, 3F class. Jfi, this is one of many task that I have to completed before final exam 😁 Lol

Rida Yulianti’s Blogspot

This is my first blog that I would like to review^^ The title of this blog is “The Nature of men and women ”. Well, this blog is talking about  the men and women natural differentiation based on “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus” book. As the example Rida takes a cases if men physical are more strength than women. This blog is very interesting! I’d love to read this blog.

Titushadiwguna's Blogspot

The second blog that I've visit is Titushadiwguna's Blog. This blog's title is “I move  to the Earth”. It’s said if men and women are completely different because they came from two different planets, and this differentiated make ten have differentiation in every field. For the example is when men have a problem, different with a women they will just become very quiet and try to find the best solutions of this problem by themselves. While the women will talk or share their problem to their friend or family. Well, I feel thank you for this blog, because This blog let me know why men never share their problem.

Febypartininew's Blogspot

Next review is Febypartininew's Blog. This blog title is “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus: it’s about Gender Role”. Honestly actually I feel bored now, cause so far all blogs that I’ve review is about Men are from Mars and women are from Venus books. But however I will still review these blog hehe..

This blog is tell the men and women different habits. And the reasons are because of gender role. the societal norms that dictate what types of behaviors are acceptable for a person based on their perceived sex. There is nothing about playing football that is inherently masculine, and there is nothing about wearing makeup that is inherently feminine. Gender is nothing more than a social construct. Woah Good job! This blog us educated me so well! It’s let me know what the reason of men and women differences is.

Yevielokftn’s Blogspot

This blog is tell the reader about five the differences between men and women according to “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus” book. The most interest example of that five differences between men and women that the writter wrote that in a relationship, men want to feel their attention is needed. In contrast a women want to feel that everything her needs can be completely by someone . I’m totally agree with this blog if  women is not materialistic , but they will be happy if they needs can be completely by someone.

Ilrona’s Blogspot

The last review is lirona's blogspot. Again, the book that I've review is about “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus” book. This blog inform the reader about the uniqueness of men and women , an example is according to their talk way. The men is straight forward, they will saay something without unnecessary detaiks. on the other hand women enjoy talking about these details. Actually this blog has interesting topic, but because of there is no picture here so it's make this blog look ordinary.

The Tuesday with Morrie : Chapter 3-19

Novel review: Tuesday with Morrie: Chapter 3-19

The Student
This chapter is talking about what was happened to much since the summer day when he did not keep in touch his promise. He lost contact with Mr Morrie . His first time encounter death is when his uncles dead. He start to looking for a job and then he got married with Janine.

The Audiovisual
In March of 1995, a limousine carrying Ted Koppel, the host of ABC-TV’s “Nightline” pulled up to the snow-covered curb outside Morrie’s house in West Newton, Massachusetts. Morrie wrote bite-sized philosophies about living with death’s shadow: “Accept what you are able to do and what you are not able to do”; “Accept the past as past, without denying it or discarding it”; “Learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others”; “Don’t assume that it’s too late to get involved.”

The Orientation
In the rental car onto Morrie’s street in west Newton, Mitch meets Morrie. Morrie talks to Morrie and then invited to Morrie's house. A few time later finally they were arrive at Morrie's house. Sometimes after that, Mitch and Morrie eat ogether in the cafeteria. Morrie talks instead of chewing, laughs with his mouth open, delivers a passionate thought through a mouthful of egg salad, the little yellow pieces spewing from his teeth. It cracks Mitch up. The whole time Mitch know him, he has two overwhelming desires: to hug him and to give him a napkin.

The Classroom
The sun beamed in through the dining room window, lighting up the hardwood floor,  Morrie and Mitch had been talking there for nearly two hours. The phone rang yet again and Morrie asked his helper, Connie, to get it. She had been jotting the callers’ names in Morrie’s small black appointment book. Friends. Meditation teachers. A discussion group. Someone who wanted to photograph him for a magazine. A sick old man, a healthy, younger man, both absorbing the quiet of the room. For Mitch it was an embarrassed silence, but he seemed to be the only one embarrassed.

Taking Attendance
Mitch went to London a few weeks later to covering Wimbledon, the world’s premier tennis competition and one of the few events he goes to where the crowd never boos and no one is drunk in the parking lot. Mitch thinking about Morrie whenever  he read anything silly or mindless. Morrie started a project called Greenhouse. Morrie  warns Mitch that money is not the most important thing.

The First Tuesday We Talk About the World
Morrie was in his wheelchair by the kitchen table, wearing a loose cotton shirt and even looser black sweatpants. Morrie said, “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “Let it come in. We think we don’t deserve love, we think if we let it in we’ll become too soft. But a wise man named Levine said it right. He said, ‘Love is the only rational act”. He repeated it carefully, pausing for effect. “‘Love is the only rational act”. Mitch nodded, like a good student, and Morrie exhaled weakly. Mitch leaned over to give Morrie a hug, then although it is not really like him, he kissed him on the cheek. He felt his weakened hands on his arms, the thin stubble of his whiskers brushing Mitch face. “So you’ll come back next Tuesday?” he whispered. slowly a discussion begins as Morrie has wanted all along about the effect of silence on human relation.

The Second Tuesday We Talk About Feeling Sorry for Yourself
Mitch comes back the next Tuesday. They talked about life and  talked about love. They talked about one of Morrie’s favorite subjects, compassion, and why our society had such a shortage of it. Morrie says Mitch should be more open-minded.. Morrie said sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too even when you’re in the dark. Even when you’re falling.”

The Third Tuesday We Talk About Regrets
The next Tuesday, Mitch arrived with the normal bags and a sony tape recorder, because he wants to remember what they talk about and can listen to it later.  “Ask me anything,” Morrie always said. So Mitch wrote this list: Death, Fear, Aging,Greed, Marriage, Family, Society, Forgiveness and a meaningful life. He snickers, but the idea is momentarily appealing. Part of me is scared of leaving school. Part of me wants to go desperately. Tension of opposites. He watch Morrie as him reads his thesis, and wonder what the big world will be like out there.

The Audiovisual, Part Two
The exiting television program about Morrie, The Nightline Show is continues. They began to discuss their background in childhood. Morrie began to have difficulty speaking words and in a few month ltaer he might not be able to speak. Morrrie explained that he spoke using his torso and gave a gesture to use his hands. Then in the event Morrie get a lot of motivation to people who had sent theirs life story in the event.

The profesor
Morrie lost his mother when he was eight years. After his mother’s death, Morrie and his young brother were sent off to a small hotel in the Connecticut woods where several families shared a large cabin and a communal kitchen. At nine years old, he has new mother, named Eva. Eva was a good stepmother. She loves Morry and his young broher so much. One day after Morrie back from the factory, he decided if when he was adult he want to become a teacher. The reason is because he would never do any work that exploited someone else and he would never allow himself to make money off the sweat of others.

The Fourth Tuesday We Talk About Death
The subject of this Tuesday was death, the first item on Mitch list. Before I arrived, Morrie had scribbled a few notes on small white pieces of paper so that he wouldn’t forget. Morrie said, “Everyone knows they’re going to die, but nobody believes it. If we did, we would do things differently.” So we kid ourselves about death, I said. “Yes. But there’s a better approach. To know you’re going to die, and to be prepared for it at any time is better. That way you can actually be more involved in your life while you’re living.” How can you ever be prepared to die? “Do what the Buddhists do. Every day, have a little bird on your shoulder that asks, ‘Is today the day? Am I ready? Am I doing all I need to do? Am I being the person I want to be?’” He turned his head to his shoulder as if the bird were there now. Finally he conclude that “Learn how to die, and you learn how to live.”

The Fifth Tuesday We Talk About Family
Morrie said, If you don’t have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you don’t have much at all. Love is so supremely important. As our great poet Auden said, ‘Love each other or perish, without love, we are birds with broken wings.Raising a family was one of those issues on Mitch little list.

The Sixth Tuesday We Talk About Emotions
Morrie said, “Take any emotion love for a woman, or grief for a loved one, or what I’m going through, fear and pain from a deadly illness. If you hold back on the emotions if you don’t allow yourself to go all the way through them—you can never get to being detached, you’re too busy being afraid. You’re afraid of the pain, you’re afraid of the grief. You’re afraid of the vulnerability that loving entails.
The Professor, Part Two
Morrie’s firs job was at mental hospital, but Morrie had decided the research world would be a place where he could contribute without exploiting others. Morrie observed that most of the patients there had been rejected and ignored in their lives, made to feel that they didn’t exist. They also missed compassion something the staff ran out of quickly. In addition many of these patients were well off from rich families, so their wealth did not buy them happiness or contentment. It was a lesson he never forgot.

The Seventh Tuesday We Talk About the Fear of Aging
Later that day, they talked about aging, Not once did he sees anyone who would pass for over thirty-five. Mitch tolds Morrie he was already feeling over the hill, watched what he ate, he has  gone from being proud to says his age because of all he has done so young, for fear he was getting too close to forty and, therefore professional oblivion. In contrast, Morrie had aging in better perspective. Morrie said,  “It’s very simple. As you grow, you learn more. If you stayed at twenty-two, you’d always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It’s growth. It’s more than the negative that you’re going to die, it’s also the positive that you understand you’re going to die, and that you live a better life because of it.”

The Eighth Tuesday We Talk About Money
Mitch helds up the newspaper Morrie laughed, then shook his head. Morrie had always been taken with simple pleasures, singing, laughing, dancing. Now, more than ever, material things held little or no significance. When people die, you always hear the expression “You can’t take it with you.” Morrie seemed to know that a long time ago. Morrie said, “Money is not a substitute for tenderness, and power is not a substitute for tenderness. I can tell you, as I’m sitting here dying, when you most need it, neither money nor power will give you the feeling you’re looking for, no matter how much of them you have.”

The Ninth Tuesday We Talk About How Love Goes On
Mitch cames to love the way Morrie lit up when he entered the room. Morrie did this for many people, I know, but it was his special talent to make each visitor feel that the smile was unique. When The last time Morrie saw his own father was in a city morgue. Morrie and his brother, David, would look out the window and see him leaning against the lamppost, and Morrie wished he would come inside and talk to them, but he rarely did. Nor did he tuck them in, nor kiss them good-night. Morrie always swore he would do these things for his own children if he ever had any.
And years later, when he had them, he did.

The Tenth Tuesday We Talk About Marriage
Marriage, almost everyone Mitch knew had a problem with it. Some had problems getting into it, some had problems getting out. Mitch generation seemed to struggle with the commitment, as if it were an alligator from some murky swamp. Charlotte and Morrie, who met as students, had been married forty-four years. Mitch watched them together now, when she would remind him of his medication, or come in and stroke his neck, or talk about one of their sons. They worked as a team, often needing no more than a silent glance to understand what the other was thinking.
Charlotte was a private person, different from Morrie, but I knew how much he respected her, because sometimes when we spoke, he would say, “Charlotte might be uncomfortable with me revealing that,” and he would end the conversation. It was the only time Morrie held anything back. Morrie said, “there are a few rules I know to be true about love and marriage: If you don’t respect the other person, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. If you don’t know how to compromise, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. If you can’t talk openly about what goes on between you, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. And if you don’t have a common set of values in life, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. Your values must be alike.

To be continue...
